Home Thoughts from a Departure Lounge

What would Descartes have thought if he had been stuck for the best part of 4 hours in the Terminal 3 Departure Lounge at Heathrow? It is a busy space where everything moves but nothing happens.

People move from their seats to go off to another part of the world and others come to take their place.  Nobody stays.  They all have one thing in common and that is that they all want to be somewhere else.  Were they ever really there?

It feels like the ultimate spectator sport as you see people of all different shapes, sizes, colours and dispositions. You wonder how curious they all are.  Different iIndividuals attract attention for all sorts of different reasons.  Some amuse while others perplex.

And then comes the realisation that they're all looking back. Within an hour I will no longer exist and the Departure Lounge will be another world with other transient beings.  I think, therefore . .  .

Has anyone noticed me?
